Lancashire Gets A New Driving Venue

by ecw1 on September 3, 2010

Overton, near Morecambe in Lancashire is getting a new riding centre. It is currently unser construction and is getting a new indoor arena. It is the idea that this new equestrian centre will play host to carriage driving shows and trials as well as ridden showing and dressage competitions

The new Lanquestrian has its groundwork complete and work on the buildings foundations begin shortly, in hope that the centre will be ready for use in November.

This is exciting times for driving enthusiasts who can travel a 200 mile round trip to compete at the nearest driving trials in the Chester and North Wales area. Making driving more accessible will definitely be beneficial in boosting the profile of carriage driving.

The nearby Lunebank Riding Centre will be incorporated into the site. Despite the construction work the centre continues to hold lessons and the livery side.

Towelands park will no longer be hosting British Showjumping events from the end of October. Tim Gredley, Managing Director of the Unex Group that owns Towerlands said “It is not financially viable any more”. They are failing to see a return on the horse business, which is very sad. The conference centre and golf course are suceesful and other options have been explored-such as pop-concerts, exhibitions and storage units.

A spokesman for British Showjumping said, “Its a terrific loss for our membership and sport as a whole but we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Gredley family for the support they have shown british Showjumping over the years”.

The venue will still be available for private horse events.
